English Poem

February 25, 2020
Seishu Hamano

Without energy no lover could find his or her beloved, but
Without the beloved I could not flame up any energy at all.
Everydayness should be on board of ship with energy, but
Even on board of the ship did I lose my energy for everyday work.
Life, filled with energy, might be bright like sunshine but
Someday in future, filled with dismay, energy lures me to do
Something naughty, and/or illicit, bound for chaotic ending,
Although many flowery buds are creeping out from the muddy life.

Energy is, in this way, a very uncontrollable, clever chimera, and,
It also lures me to waste everyday precious time, which
Smiles away like an arrow as if nothing had happened in my energetic life.

ⅡEnvoy(反歌)

I sent this poem to a good friend of mine, and Mr. Fukuda, an American literature man, composed the following “Envoy” or “response poem”, and sent it to me by e-mail, wasting his precious night life time.

A Version of Energy by Another Hermit
When young, we do not need energy
Because youth is another name of energy.
When old, we need it
If we wish to do something good or bad.
In a word, youth is energy itself, but not vice versa.
However, life, even without energy, continues sadly long.
This is our question.

ⅢPostscript(追記)

When sending my poem, I attached a Haiku:
Winter has come,
Cold enough to me
With little energy.

Haiku:

In this way, anyway, this year, too, thanks to your help and friendship, we are all healthy and happy. I wish all of you attending here and together with Mr. Fukuda and family will be happy next year, too!
